Volunteers’ Week 2026

Volunteers’ Week 2026

St Chad's Broomfield CC28 May - 00:00

Celebrating the People Who Make Our Club Stronger

From 1st to 7th June, Volunteers’ Week returns—a national celebration of the individuals who give their time, energy, and heart to strengthen communities across the country. For a grassroots cricket club like ours, this week isn’t just a date on the calendar. It’s a chance to recognise the people who keep the Club thriving and to invite even more of our players, parents, and local residents to get involved.

Volunteering is not about having endless free time or specialist skills. It’s about showing up, contributing what you can, and becoming part of something bigger than yourself. And the benefits—for the club and for each volunteer—are enormous.

Why Volunteers Matter to Our Club

Every match played, every junior session delivered, every safe and welcoming environment we create is powered by volunteers. Coaches, scorers, ground staff, tea makers, fundraisers, committee members, and quiet helpers behind the scenes all play a part.

When more people get involved, we can:

  • Run more junior and women’s sessions
  • Improve facilities and equipment
  • Support disability cricket and community programmes
  • Create a club environment that feels welcoming, inclusive, and full of life

Volunteers’ Week is the perfect moment to celebrate those contributions—and to open the door for new people to join in.

The Benefits of Volunteering: For You and Your Wellbeing

Volunteering isn’t just good for the club. It’s good for you.

  • Better physical health — Whether it’s helping with ground prep, coaching, or supporting events, volunteering gets you moving and keeps you active.
  • Improved mental wellbeing — Studies consistently show that volunteering reduces stress, boosts mood, and increases confidence. Being part of a team and contributing to a shared purpose is powerful.
  • A stronger sense of belonging — When you volunteer, you become part of the heartbeat of the club. You build friendships, feel valued, and know you’re making a difference.
  • New skills and experiences — From leadership to communication to practical skills, volunteering helps you grow in ways you might not expect.

For parents, it’s a chance to share time with your children and show them what community spirit looks like. For players, it’s a way to give back to the Club that supports your cricket. For local residents, it’s an opportunity to connect with others and be part of something positive.

How You Can Get Involved During Volunteers’ Week

There are countless ways to help—big or small, one‑off or ongoing. During Volunteers’ Week, we’ll be highlighting opportunities across the club, including:

  • Supporting junior training sessions
  • Helping with ground maintenance or pavilion tasks
  • Assisting with matchday duties
  • Offering skills in media, photography, admin, or fundraising
  • Welcoming new families and players
  • Getting involved in women’s, girls’, and disability cricket programmes

Even an hour makes a difference. And you’ll be joining a friendly, supportive group of people who care about the same things you do: cricket, community, and creating opportunities for everyone.

A Club Built on Community

Our Club has always been at its best when people come together. Volunteers’ Week is a reminder that cricket is more than a sport—it’s a community, a support network, and a place where people of all ages and backgrounds can belong.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, now is the perfect time. Your contribution—whatever it looks like—helps shape the future of our club and strengthens the community around it.

Let’s celebrate our volunteers, welcome new ones, and make this Volunteers’ Week our most inspiring yet.
