1. What are your nicknames at the club?
Don’t think I have one. Generally I am referred to as “RHP” as apparently I resemble a Rockhopper Penguin.
2. When did you join Chads and why?
Lured out of retirement by the bonhomie at the winter nets which I only originally attended to keep Benjamin company. Happily the bonhomie wasn’t fake and it is a fantastic club full of fantastic (and occasionally eccentric!) players.
3. Which other clubs have you played for?
West Midlands College First X1 (1981-1984), Harrogate Amateurs CC (1984-1994).
4. What is your most memorable Chads match or moment?
Last Dales Council game of the 2018 season against our lovely friends at Drighlington, knowing that as soon as the first ball was bowled we had won and were promoted as they were fielding an ineligible player. All this after they had stitched us up the same way earlier in the season. Proof that what goes around comes around!
5. Who are your all-time top three Chads players?
Philllll “The Power” Taylor for fashion sense as well as cricketing skills (I’ve never lost a game in which he has played), Stevie G for his constant mockery (and he can bat a bit) and I think twins count as one so Michael “Mr LMS” Barnes and David Barnes.
6. What are your top three self-promotion facts?
I totally rock my pre-distressed red batting cap, for a 56 year old I can give the younglings a run for their money and, of course, cricket was much tougher in my day without these big bats and helmets and all these pads drone drone drone…..
7. What tune would you most like to go out to bat to?
Heavyweight Champion of the World by Reverend and the Makers.
8. Which sportsperson do you compare yourself to and why?
Mike Brealey – made the most of his limited cricketing skills, but fantastic at understanding people and getting them to surpass even their own expectations. I fall well short in comparison to him sadly.
9. What do you love the most about Chads?
The people, the support and the mickey-taking.
10. What is your favourite part of the Chads ground and why?
The tea room – I love a cricket tea!
11. What one thing would you change about the club?
Nothing – keep up the good work!
