Player Profile - Katie Bostock's XI

St Chad's Broomfield CC28 Jan - 01:00

Today we spoke to indoor league winning captain, Katie Bostock.

1. What are your nicknames at the club?

I generally get anything to do with my surname. Boz, Bozza, Bozzle, anything like that.

2. When did you join Chads and why?

I joined Chads in April/May 2021. Restrictions were lifting after the latest lockdown, and my housemates were going out to see other friends and do other activities, so I thought it was a good idea to get a social activity on my own. I googled women's sports teams in Headingley, Chads popped up, and the rest is history.

3. Which other clubs have you played for?

I've only ever played for Chads. I'd not played cricket since I was in Y6 before joining, and learnt everything while at Chads.

4. What is your most memorable Chads match or moment?

It's got to be my 5-fer against North Leeds last year.

The day started absolutely terribly. I'd left my spikes back at my flat, and turned up in platform trainers, so had to borrow a pair of sports trainers from somebody else in the team.

The day turned around when I got brought onto bowl in the 19th over, and I managed to bowl one of the set batters in my second over. Unfortunately, I also bowled two wides that over and was taken off. Luckily for me, I got to come back a few overs later and made it count, getting the opener the first ball of my second spell. Thank you Hannah for the amazing glove work! From there, I took three more wickets, and finished with 5-26 from my 5 overs.

This was about two weeks after saying I'd never have to worry about buying jugs, as I wasn't good enough to trouble the scorer like that. Even though we didn't win the game, it was my favourite of last season.

5. Who are your all-time top three Chads players?

Maggie Lindsay - I've never seen someone so good at sport, who has the ability to trip over thin air as often as she does. She makes me look graceful! Seeing her increase her top batting score so much across the season was amazing to see, and makes me think I might finally hit double figures one day.

Steph Robinson - Steph is an insane player, the true all-rounder of the women's team. But she's also amazing to have in the field cheering you on. When Captain Hannah is busy behind the stumps, Steph always comes over to remind me to bowl to my field and calm down, and that I can do it. She's always right.

Candice Broome - My favourite person to sit on the "western terrace" with and watch the team smash a cup final. Candice broke her collar bone mid-season chasing down a boundary, and still kept offering to play so that we wouldn't be short any week. Her getting a run out in the 2s and not even realising, was one of my top moments last year.

6. What are your top three self-promotion facts?

I'm a black belt in Taekwondo.

I'm a Ballroom and Latin dancer, and have competed at the Winter Gardens in sunny Blackpool.

I'm a huge reader, and finished 90 books last year. I've set my target at 100 for 2025, and won't be getting avoidance again.

7. What tune would you most like to go out to bat to?

Femininonmen - Chappell Roan. Make sure it's set to the chorus.

8. Which sportsperson do you compare yourself to and why?

The easiest comparison is Darren Gough or Mark Ramprakash because of their strictly winning ways. Fun fact, Darren Gough lifted the glitterball with my former coach's sister-in-law.

9. What do you love the most about Chads?

How friendly everyone is, and how there are opportunities for everyone. Joining the club as a complete beginner, everyone was so welcoming, and I managed to play a game within my first couple of months. It was great to immediately get stuck in with everyone. I've played in the women's, on a Saturday, in Last Man Stands, and I've been an indoor captain. I don't think anywhere else would have allowed me to do that.

10. What is your favourite part of the Chads ground and why?

Last year I found a new appreciation for the trees around the boundary. As someone who gets to field on the boundary, the shade is amazing when the sun is really beating down. It's amazing to finish bowling my over and have a couple of minutes to cool down before going again.

11. What one thing would you change about the club?

Even though there are already loads of opportunities to play, I want even more. I'd love more intra-club friendlies during the summer. I absolutely love the indoor league we have over the winter, as we get to keep playing, and I get to spend time with people I wouldn't usually from within the club. So more of those style of games in the summer would be fantastic.
