Player Profile - Jon Hornsey's XI

St Chad's Broomfield CC21 Feb 2023 - 01:00

Today we hear from Management Committee member and 2nd XI Captain, Jon Hornsey.

1. What are your nicknames at the club?

Butler, Jeeves, Jos or anything related to Jos Butler I believe, apparently having blue eyes and a short back and sides means I have a striking resemblance, if only I could bat in his style too.

2. When did you join Chads and why?

2021 after not playing for a number of years, I missed playing and couldn't wait to get back into the swing of things. After looking at the local clubs, Chads had multiple teams open for all levels of cricket, the perfect way to get back into the sport.

3. Which other clubs have you played for?

Caistor CC in Lincolnshire.

4. What is your most memorable Chads match or moment?

Sam Cooley getting a run out after kicking the ball straight down the wicket whilst wicket keeping playing LMS. Unfortunately, I was batting and called for the run, and ran out Gus - a true crowd favourite.

5. Who are your all-time top three Chads players?

Angus Boyle - Technically astute, great guy, would do anything for anyone.

The better Havis - I'll let you decide which one this is, but both are great for the team.

Praveen Thotagamuwa - Won us more than a few games with his bowling and occasionally with the bat.

6. What are your top three self-promotion facts?

I've taken a fifer and then bowled 4 wides in the last over to lose a game - 14 year old
bottle job.

Started a Recruitment business in the middle of a global pandemic, we are still going strong!

Travelled through 7 countries with my Partner and Cavapoo "Yogi" across Europe in 2022.

7. What tune would you most like to go out to bat to?

Highway to Hell - ACDC

8. Which sportsperson do you compare yourself to and why?

Phil Jones - will put his body on the line, go missing to the physio room for a number of years but come back with a passion for the sport again.

9. What do you love the most about Chads?

The inclusive nature of the club, I've seen players that have never picked up a cricket bat get involved and turn themselves into a regular player for the club. I think this can be harder to achieve in smaller clubs who can't offer the support Chads can.

10. What is your favourite part of the Chads ground and why?

It's got to be the short boundaries, if only every ground could accommodate this, I might not get caught out as often.

11. What one thing would you change about the club?

I'd love the club to have more space, being as close to the city as we are you are always going to struggle for space.
