Inter Club Indoor League Extended

Inter Club Indoor League Extended

St Chad's Broomfield CC

A Record Breaking, Spirit Filled Start to the 2026/27 Season

The opening three rounds of our Inter Club Indoor League have delivered exactly what this competition was designed for: huge participation, brilliant energy, competitive cricket played in the right spirit, and a welcoming pathway for new and junior players to get involved.

Across the first three weeks, the four teams — Bears, Sharks, Phoenix and Cowboys — have already fielded a record number of players, including multiple juniors stepping confidently into senior indoor cricket and several new members who have joined the club and immediately embraced the league. The atmosphere has been superb, the games fast paced and good natured, and the standard of cricket impressively high.

Below is a full round up of the opening six fixtures.

Round 1 – Thursday 1 October

Phoenix 4–2 Cowboys

Phoenix opened their campaign with a strong, disciplined performance, securing a 4–2 win. Their net score of 207 was built on excellent contributions from Will Greenwood (41), Nazmul Hasan (43), Becca Gibbons (22) and David Barnes (24).

The Cowboys fought hard — Jeewan Geeganage (59 net) and Raheem Effendi (38) led the way — but 17 wickets proved costly against a Phoenix attack featuring standout spells from Isabel Russell (4 wickets) and Alfie Hasan (4).

A high quality, good spirited opener that set the tone for the league.

Bears 6–0 Sharks

The Bears began with a commanding victory, restricting the Sharks to a net score of 97. Despite positive batting from Alex Worsfold (26) and Adityavarman Mehta (24), the Sharks’ 18 dismissals allowed the Bears’ bowlers — notably Alex Worsfold (6 wickets), James Prowse and Frank Megarry (3 each) — to dominate.

The Bears’ reply was confident and controlled, reaching 144 net, with Muhammad Salman (36), Jithu Joy (19) and Jeewan Geeganage (22) contributing strongly.

A statement win that showcased the Bears’ early strength.

Round 2 – Thursday 8 October

Sharks 6–0 Cowboys

The Sharks produced one of the most complete performances of the competition so far, posting a superb net score of 225. Runs flowed throughout the order: Toby Clarke (33), Jasper Lyne (32), Josh Lam (33), Tim Rogers (35) and Adityavarman Mehta (32) all impressed.

The Cowboys responded with determination — Danyal Ahmed (52 net) and Alfie Hasan (44) played excellently — but 19 wickets halted their momentum.

The Sharks’ bowlers were outstanding, led by Adityavarman Mehta (7 wickets) and supported by Tim Rogers and Kishor Pathak (4 each).

A dominant and confident Sharks performance.

Bears 6–0 Phoenix

The Bears continued their strong start with another controlled win. Phoenix battled hard but were restricted to 75 net, despite good innings from Oscar Havis (28), David Barnes (14) and John Lewis (13).

The Bears’ bowlers were superb: Mohammed Ishaq (5 wickets), Frank Megarry (3), Fraser Chapman (3) and Muhammad Abdullah (2) kept Phoenix under constant pressure.

In reply, the Bears reached 127 net, with Fraser Chapman (23), Ross Dell (27) and Muhammad Salman (23) ensuring a comfortable victory.

Round 3 – Thursday 15 October

Bears 4–2 Cowboys

A tight, competitive match saw the Bears edge home thanks to a disciplined batting display. The Cowboys posted 147 net, with strong contributions from Nazmul Hasan (40), Danyal Ahmed (34) and Jeewan Geeganage (31).

The Bears’ bowlers again impressed — Fraser Chapman (5 wickets) and Nuh Shere (3) led a well balanced attack.

The Bears’ reply was measured and effective, reaching 168 net with standout innings from Seamus O’Hara (34), Jithu Joy (36) and James Prowse (30).

A close contest played in excellent spirit.

Sharks 4–2 Phoenix

The Sharks rounded off Round 3 with a strong win over Phoenix. Their net score of 163 featured contributions from across the order: Adityavarman Mehta (32), Tim Rogers (24), Yuta Kishina (34) and a superb wicket free innings from Jasper Lyne (37).

Phoenix replied with 124 net, with excellent batting from Michael Barnes (32) and Oscar Havis (35), but regular wickets prevented sustained pressure.

The Sharks’ bowlers were effective throughout, with Abishek Nayyar (4 wickets) and Alex Worsfold (3) delivering key breakthroughs.

League Table After Three Rounds

The early table reflects just how competitive the league has already become, with Bears and Sharks making strong starts, Phoenix picking up valuable points, and the Cowboys pushing every side hard in closely contested fixtures.

Looking Ahead: More Indoor Cricket Than Ever Before

After a short break for half term and Bonfire Night, the next block of fixtures recommences on Thursday 12th November, with another three rounds of fast paced, inclusive indoor cricket.

Even better — following the huge success of the opening weeks and the record number of players involved — the club has decided to extend the Inter Club Indoor League, adding a further six weeks of fixtures across January and February, before a finals night in March.

This extension reflects everything the league has achieved so far, including outstanding participation, brilliant spirit, strong development opportunities for juniors, and a welcoming environment for new members.

It means even more cricket, even more opportunities to get involved, and an even bigger indoor season for the whole club.

With the league now extended into the new year, the 2026/27 Inter Club Indoor League is already shaping up to be the most successful and enjoyable edition yet — and there is plenty more great cricket still to come.
