Get Set Weekends

St Chad's Broomfield CC19 Mar - 01:00

Time to get the place ready!

Get Set Weekends are when cricket clubs across the country come alive, and are a chance for people of all ages and abilities to roll up their sleeves and make a visible difference to the sport they love. If you’ve ever wondered how much a weekend of effort can change a club, this is your moment.

Our Get Set Weekends will take place on Saturday 21st and Sunday 28th March, and Saturday 28th and Sunday 29th March. The Saturday sessions are from 10am to 4pm and the Sunday sessions are from 12pm to 4pm.

Why volunteers matter

Volunteers are the heartbeat of amateur sport. A few hours of time can transform a ground or a pavilion, and that transformation ripples out into the whole community. When volunteers turn up, they do more than fix things: they create a welcoming atmosphere, show newcomers that the club is cared for, and send a message that cricket is for everyone. That sense of belonging keeps players coming back, attracts families, and helps clubs thrive long after the paint has dried.

The real impact you create

- Immediate, visible change — a freshly painted pavilion, tidy nets, and clear signage make the club feel ready for the season and proud to host visitors.
- Better experiences for players — well‑prepared pitches and organised kit mean fewer cancellations and more time playing.
- New friendships and skills — volunteers learn practical skills and meet people they might never have met otherwise.
- Stronger community ties — local businesses, schools and families notice the effort and often respond with support or new members.
- Long‑term resilience — clubs that build volunteer networks are better able to cope with challenges and plan for growth.

What it’s like to volunteer on a Get Set Weekend

Volunteering is flexible and social. Shifts are short, tasks are varied, and there’s always someone to show you the ropes. You might be painting one hour and cutting grass the next. Expect friendly faces, hot drinks, and a real sense of achievement at the end of the day.

How to get involved and make the most of your time

- Sign up for a short shift so it fits around work and family life.
- Bring a friend or family member — volunteering is more fun together.
- Try something new — groundskeeping, kit sorting, or general maintenance are all great ways to help.
- Share your story on social media to inspire others and show the difference a few hours can make.
- Stay connected — if you enjoy it, ask to be added to the club’s volunteer list for future events.

A final word of encouragement

You don’t need specialist skills to make a big difference — just a willingness to help. On 21st–22nd March and 28th–29th March, your time will turn into better facilities, happier players, and a stronger local cricket community. Join our Get Set Weekends, bring your energy, and watch how a few hours can change a club for the whole season.
