This International Women’s Day, we celebrate a decade of women’s cricket at St Chad’s Broomfield CC. Now entering our tenth season, our Women & Girls’ section has grown into a welcoming, competitive, and inspiring part of the Club, and we’re proud of what our players, coaches, and volunteers have built together.
Why Women and Girls’ Cricket Matters
Women’s and girls’ cricket creates pathways, role models, and belonging. Having both girls’ teams and women’s teams means players can progress, stay involved, and see long-term opportunities in the sport. Representation matters: when girls see women of different ages and backgrounds playing, coaching, and leading, it changes what they believe is possible for themselves.

Voices from the Club
“St Chad’s Broomfield CC has a strong women’s section made up of incredible women from all over the world. For me, having such a welcoming and diverse team is so important. As the mother of a daughter, and as someone who also coaches the girls’ team, it is wonderful to see our women’s team being such powerful role models. They show our girls that women of any age and from any background can play cricket, belong in the game, and thrive. This representation is vital.”
"I joined St Chad's Broomfield CC recently and have loved the chance to get back into cricket. The club has a great women's setup with both winter nets and summer training available, an opportunity you don't always find in women's cricket. Really looking forward to the season ahead!"
“It is great to have both a women's and girls’ team at the club. If you are a girl who really likes cricket, but you are too old to be in the girls’ team, it is important to have the women’s team so you can still play. The women have probably played cricket longer than us, and they can help us to improve. We did a training session with the women’s team last year that was great fun, and it was good to see that we could do some things equally as well as them.”
Impact and the Road Ahead
With eight years of hard ball league experience, cup wins in 2024 and 2025, and a thriving soft ball side, our women’s section offers both high-level cricket and a relaxed, social option. The 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup coming to England — with matches a short walk from our ground at Headingley Stadium — makes this a pivotal year for women and girls’ cricket. Our brand new £300,000 pavilion, designed with women and girls at its heart, ensures facilities match our ambitions.
