2,000 Senior Appearances

2,000 Senior Appearances

St Chad's Broomfield CC20 Nov - 01:00

An unrivalled level of participation in 2025!

The numbers have now been double-checked, and we are extremely proud to announce that we achieved a landmark that speaks volumes about our Club. Our senior squads collectively recorded 2,000 appearances across the 2025 season — a milestone made possible because we deliberately build opportunities, remove barriers, and put inclusivity at the heart of everything we do.

The milestone and what it means

  • 2,000 senior appearances across league, cup and friendly matches during the 2025 season.
  • A record driven by increased participation from every corner of the Club.
  • The achievement highlights strong matchday availability and a club culture that treats opportunity as a club wide responsibility rather than an occasional programme.

How inclusivity turned opportunity into reality

  • More teams, more chances — We field more senior league teams than any other Club in Yorkshire, creating playing pathways for cricketers of differing ages, abilities and life schedules.
  • Flexible selection and rostering reduce barriers for students, shift-workers and parents so members don’t have to choose between life and cricket.
  • Open, supportive selection culture welcomes players returning from injury, newcomers and those re-joining the game after long breaks; this normalises second chances and keeps people in the game.
  • Dedicated coaching and development across all senior sides ensures players aren’t just filling places, they’re growing — which boosts availability and loyalty.
  • Building infrastructure for now, and the future
  • Fixture planning that maximises weekend and evening opportunities and deliberately avoids scheduling that excludes working members.
  • Targeted recruitment for under-represented groups, alongside buddy systems and coached taster sessions that make the first step less intimidating.
  • Transparent communications — simple, reliable messaging about availability, roles and matchday expectations that lets members plan and commit.

Why this matters beyond the scorebook

The 2,000 appearances are a direct measure of social impact: stronger team bonds, improved wellbeing, and a broader base for sustainable club development. More senior teams means more fixtures, more coaching touchpoints and more pathways to leadership, umpiring and coaching roles that sustain the Club into the future. By proving that inclusivity drives participation, we set a practical example other clubs can adopt to grow the game at grassroots level.

Looking forward

We celebrate this milestone with gratitude for every player, volunteer, coach and family member who made an appearance possible. The work now is simple and steady: keep widening the door, keep smoothing the path in front of people who want to play, and keep turning opportunity into action.

Our target for 2026 is to reach 2,500 appearances across all our teams. If you’d like to help ensure more appearances in 2026 — by coaching, volunteering, sponsoring, matchday travel or offering practical support — speak to our Management Committee, or post on the members’ group and we’ll connect you with the right team.

Bold achievements like this belong to everyone at St Chad’s Broomfield Cricket Club. We’re proud, determined and already planning how to make next season even more accessible, competitive and full of cricket, including adding even more teams, so watch this space!
