Seasons Prospects

9 months ago By Paul Berry

Just one month to go!

As expected, 2017 was a year of transition for the club with our teams finding their feet in new leagues. Our goal for 2018 is promotion for both our 1st XI and 2nd XI and there has been a lot of work over the winter to lay the foundations to help us achieve this. It is now down to the players to perform on the pitch and we are quietly confident they will deliver, even though we will face a strong challenge from our opponents, week in, week out.

We will also look for our Dales Council XI to consolidate their position in a higher division after promotion last season and for our 3rd XI to continue to bring through the next batch of promising juniors.

We have retained all our 1st XI and 2nd XI squad (with the exception of Jordan who has moved to Australia) and recruitment has again been a huge success with over 20 new players already signed up to play across our senior teams, of which we expect several will play a significant role in our promotion bids.

Despite being a financially robust club, we have continued with our policy of not paying anyone to play for the club. This has worked for us in the past and has not only given us loyalty from our senior players (despite several approaches from other clubs) but we have also been able to give junior players the opportunity to gain experience on the pitch. This has resulted in a large proportion of our senior squad consisting of current and former junior players. This policy provides the club with solid foundations to build on and helps us avoid those players who follow the money and have very little loyalty.

Plans for a new pavilion our moving ahead and our junior section and new women and girls section continue to go from strength to strength. These are exciting times for the club, and long may it remain so.

As last season, we look forward to welcoming opponents, umpires, scorers, club and league officials over the forthcoming season. We may have the smallest ground in the league but it has character and we hope our opponents will enjoy playing there as much as we do. We also hope to see you for a drink or two over the road in Woodies after the game.
