A "village" club in an inner city environment, St Chad's CC was founded in Far Headingley in the early 1880's, playing at their ground in front of St Chad's Church since 1922. The original team played friendly games on both Wednesdays and Saturdays.
The club merged with Headingley Broomfield CC in 1979 to form St Chad's Broomfield CC, and the club fielded two teams in the Wetherby Cricket League in its first year. In the early 1980's a 3rd XI was formed, initially to play friendlies, before joining the Dales Council League, and then becoming a member of the Wetherby Cricket League in the mid 1990's.
Currently the club still runs three teams in the Wetherby Cricket League and a friendly team. The 1st XI and 2nd XI continue to play in front of St Chad's Church and the 3rd XI and 4th XI play a short distance away at Richmond House. We also have evening league teams as well as junior teams at U17, U15, U13, U11 and U9 age groups.
In 2010, the 1st XI won the Wetherby Cricket League Championship for the first time to add to the many trophies won by the club and its players over the years.
